mission of the English Language Programs (ELP) is to provide service
to the University of Pennsylvania's community of students, faculty,
and administrators and to foster the achievement of University and
School of Arts and Sciences (SAS) goals through programmatic
initiatives. The ELP is committed to providing programs that enhance
the diversity of the Penn community and develop Penn's international
dimension. The ELP strives for excellence in its educational
endeavors, strengthening the link between theory, research, and
practice
Summer Session
A private
university and member of the Ivy League, Penn has a reputation for
academic excellence along with world-class museums and theaters that
draw tens of thousands of students, researchers, skilled workers,
entrepreneurs, and visitors to the region each year.
Summer Sessions brings together the various schools of the
University.
Summer courses are
offered by the School of Arts and Sciences, the Graduate School of
Education, the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, the
Graduate School of Fine Arts, the School of Nursing, the Annenberg
School for Communication, the School of Social Work, and the Wharton
School.
Regular
undergraduate and graduate courses are open to qualified visiting
students, who apply to Summer Sessions to register for summer
courses
Insurance
What do I need to
know about my health insurance policy?
International students holding F-1 visas must purchase a health
insurance policy through PENN Summer Sessions. Please be aware that
many U.S. medical institutions do not accept health insurance
policies from other countries and the cost of health care in the
U.S. can be extremely high.

Access
to University Facilities
ELP students in most programs receive an identification card ,The
Penn Card ,that permits them to use Penn's academic and recreational
facilities or services such as: 15 libraries, Penn museums, computer
labs with Internet access, digital language laboratory, campus bus
service and walking escort service, tennis courts, gymnasiums with
exercise and weight-lifting rooms, indoor courts for squash,
racquetball, basketball, and volleyball, indoor swimming pools,
saunas and steam rooms, and an ice skating rink. (Use of some
recreational facilities require a fee.)

Activities and Field Trips
Many programs include a sociocultural component in which students
take fieldtrips and excursions to local and regional sites of
interest, especially ones where the participants will have
opportunities to interact with Americans and to learn about US
history and culture

Is
a safe, high-rise building just a few blocks from the University
of Pennsylvania. International House, which is organized into
suites that consist of ten single rooms and a common lounge,
provides a friendly living experience for over 350 students.

students to experience American culture in the warmth, variety,
and spontaneity of an American home while having frequent, relaxed
opportunities to practice English conversation.

ELP House at the
Sheraton
Is located three blocks from the ELP at 34th and Walnut Streets.
Consisting of two special floors that are dedicated to student
housing, these accommodations are air-conditioned and include
access to some hotel amenities.

The Stratum on 36th
Street
Is located just 4 blocks from the ELP and offers a wide range of
services including meal plans for the all-you-can-eat cafe located
in the building. The Stratum on 36th Street offers double
(shared) rooms with a private bathroom.
